NaturaLibra is a term derived from nature and balance in Latin, i.e. NaturaLibrium in English. NaturaLibra, balance of nature, is the aim of my project to construct an environment for both human and animal. Why is this important, particularly along Union Canal? Union Canal is a natural treasure in Edinburgh city to both citizen and animals. In fact, this wildlife corridor has a weaker ecological benefit along the various development projects. Do you find less swans habitat or appear along the canal over the years? If the current mode of development pattern is to be continued,
you may find even less animals, in terms of both quantities and species,
However, this may not be the definite result of the development if biodiversity is considered. Therefore, in response of the current condition and future planning, I want to reconcile an element of development with the protection and provision of biodiversity. Based on the high market need of housing in Edinburgh, my project is to design residential buildings in Fountain Bridge that can benefit the biodiversity, so to restore the natural balance in the most urban region of Union Canal. This is project is only at the beginning of re-conciliating the balance by providing and creating habitat that connection of the pieces in the future is crucial.

Welcome to NaturaLibra

Landscape Design and Sustainable Building Strategies are the main element to provide animal and people a better living environment while Interaction between two is the critical point of finding and maintaining the balance. In the following section, specific element will be illustrated in details to present you how human and animal can possibly thrive together.
Site Level
First section is the overview of the project by looking into the site plan and section to understand what strategies are designed and used to create a bio diverse living space

Building Level
This section is the zoom in of each strategies in the building.

Landscape Level
This section is about the landscape design of the project, which is mainly illustrating the animal habitat within the site. The relationship between nature is the key of this landscape which is explained with the chart below.
